About Us

  • Overview

The Virtual Reality and Emerging Technologies Lab in Urban Design and Architecture was set up in June 2015 with the efforts of Dr. Amir Shakibamanesh. Since then, many dissertations and innovative research have been done in the Lab. This laboratory, which is currently operating at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of Art, is unique in its kind.

  • Goals and missions

    • Using the knowledge of virtual reality and new technologies in order to develop new qualitative and quantitative methods in urban design and architecture studies;
      • Assessing, testing, and analyzing the effects of the proposed plans or existing structures and elements on observers and pedestrians through quasi-tests;
      • Increasing the control of variables involved in the study and maximizing the replication of real conditions;
      • Combining intuitive and experimental modeling based on three-dimensional digital quasi-tests with past qualitative-quantitative studies;
    • Development of new platforms for teaching urban design and architecture based on modern technologies.
      • Providing a platform for creating more creative design solutions tailored to the needs of designers;
      • Increasing the possibility of intuitive design with higher speeds and lower costs

  • Our Vision

      • Introducing architecture and urban planning researchers to applied research in virtual reality and establishing an effective channel of communication with industry;
      • Creating high levels of immersion in a VR urban model as well as better simulation of observer movements, which can widely be used in urban design studies.
      • Creating strong, reliable, and quasi-real visualizations; providing a suitable platform for evaluation and discussion; and finally, cooperation with technical authorities and government organizations active in urban planning projects.
      • Testing projects before implementation to reduce the risk of errors caused by designs in the real environment;
      • Improving the level of knowledge and analysis as well as decision-making abilities in the process of architectural design and urban planning and design
      • Evaluating plans being developed by experts;
      • Evaluating the opinions of urban space users ...
      • Reducing the risk and errors caused by designs in the real environment;
